The Wells Chess Club proudly serves as a hub for chess enthusiasts in the Wells area. Our Junior Club runs on Wednesdays with two groups;

Beginners 5pm - 5.45pm

Confident Players 6pm - 7pm.

Training sessions are led by Ukrainian master and trainer Sasha Matlak (FIDE ID: 148061879, DBS Certificate number: 001833567592): two times Champion of Somerset (2023, 2024), West of England Chess Champion (Bristol, 2024), officially registered as a Chess Coach of National Level. He fosters a passion for the game whilst also providing valuable resources for those seeking Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC) approved and DBS cleared chess tutors. We are also recognised by the English Chess Federation (ECF) as one of the few Development Pathway Clubs in the country.

Our commitment to promoting chess education is reflected in our network of qualified tutors who have earned CSC approval and possess up-to-date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance. Whether you're a parent looking to introduce your child to the strategic world of chess or an individual eager to enhance your own skills, the Wells Chess Club is here to connect you with trusted and qualified instructors.
